How Stetson will remember the Obama era

In Hatter Network’s Obama administration opinion poll, we asked “How will you remember the Obama era?” Below are a curated selection of unedited responses.

“Two strong and competent leaders who cared about their country and did everything they could to make the changes they wanted to see. They were also extremely fun, funny, and kind people. Seeing videos of them or the like made them feel and look like actual people, not stuffy politicians.”

“Giving marginalized (and non-marginalized!) people voices”

“Its easy. I remember him everytime me and my family are able to go to the doctor now and everytime a same sex couple walks down the street happily”

“As a time of hope for progress in this country. Though Obama faced criticism in his first term for not fulfilling his campaign promises of bringing hope and change to the United States, I will ultimately remember his time in office as a time shrouded in hope–hope not only for the progress of the U.S., but also for the global community.”

“Horrors of inept leadership and socialist push”

“With pride that the U.S. had the courage to elect the first black president – for two terms!”

“I will have mixed feelings. There were good moments–LGBTQ rights and civil issues were brought to the forefront, the unemployment rate was dramatically decreased, etc.–but there were also undeniably bad moments. Benghazi, the failure of Obamacare, the furthering of bipartisanship, and other events all contributed to the present political turmoil in America. Obama promised change–radical change–but due to his Senate and House, nothing really changed. It was politics as usual. However, due to the Obama administration, millenials have become more aware of the political problems America faces. That is the best thing out of the Obama era.”

“Fondly, one of moving forward united as a nation of love and compassion.”

“Regardless of what you think of his policies, Obama is the coolest President we’ve ever had.”

“Obama trying to dunk a chocolate chip cookie in a glass of milk but it doesn’t fit through the top and he says, “tch, thanks Obama.” (but honestly, even though i couldn’t vote yet, he was My president and, politics aside, I’ll always treasure and remember what he meant to this nation and her people)”

“Probably the best First Lady since Roosevelt.”

“The worst years of my life. I graduated from Stetson and can’t get a long term, stable job. Deep in student loan debt and now no income return $, Obama approved for student loan debt to be taken from returns.”

“Recession, bad race relations, terrible health care system, media bias, and a skewed justice department.”

“I’ll remember him for his views on feminism and LGBT rights. We’ve never had such a vocal and supportive president on those issues before.”

“The time before the Orange nightmare.”

“I will remember the Obama era as the era of equality. Whether it was through the legalization of same-sex marriage or the reopening of the US embassy of Cuba, Obama always tried his best to unite us as a country in which we respected each others differences.”

“I will remember it as a time with a trustworthy and honest man leading our county. One that had the best interest of all Americans.”

“Hope-filled, progressive, productive despite road blocks by Congress”

“An inclusive one where strong progress towards equality for all was made.”

“I will remember the Obama era as a time of progress and hope for the future. President Obama and First Lady, Michelle Obama have set a precedent for many to follow and admire for their authenticity, transparency, empathy, and ability to empower those across the nation”

“The Obama era will be a story of resurgence from an economic recession and a new era of acceptance for people of differing sexualities.”

“It was the era of, everything great is because of Obama and everything negative is someone else’s fault. He never took responsibility.”

“A time when I believed that we can change the world”

“Some of the worst years America has seen.”

“A terrible president who encouraged hate and violent and tried to turn everyone against each other and countries against the US”

“That people are worth investing in, America is still great and we can come back from anything, and the 20th century won’t be the only great American century. We still are leaders of the free world and must defend it.”

“As the period when even the American president didn’t think the US was an exceptional country.”

“The President who divided a nation”

“Thoughtful focus leadership with genuine emotion, care and equity for all Americans. Someone who wasn’t afraid to admit to a mistake or call out those who didn’t follow the rules.”

“Began with hope, ended with disillusionment.”

“Struggling economy, weakening of USA ideals of free enterprise, worsening race relations, abandoning black America to more poverty and joblessness, extreme government overreach, weakened USA’s position as respectable leader in world’s affairs, advancement of small business crippling regulations.”

“As major setback for our country.”

“I will remember the era as the time when our country took major steps forward

“A classy, intelligent, courageous, ethical and scandal-free administration that was obstructed at every, single step.”

“A time of hope”

“A great politician with terrible ideas”

“As the greatest period in the United States, until our doom (AKA Trump)”

“I will remember it as a time when hope and change were promoted, not intolerance and hatred. I will remember that we had a respectful, intellectual person running the country, not a blithering idiot. … But they say everything is cyclical, so perhaps we can’t expect to have someone like Obama forever, and that we must endure the bad times in order to earn the good.”
