Sweat At Home with Hatter Network – Week 1: Cardio

Every facet of our lives has changed dramatically amidst the spread COVID-19; one particular upset has been to our fitness routines. Gyms, fitness centers, and sports teams have ceased operations, leaving a void where weightlifting and spin classes once were.

Perhaps you’re wondering how you’re supposed to maintain your fitness goals when you don’t have your typical resources. Perhaps you’ve suddenly found yourself with a little more free time and want to pick up a new exercise routine.

Or maybe you simply want to reap the benefits, both mental and physical, of daily exercise, and want to have a little fun doing it. Look no further! Each week, we’ll be compiling our favorite workouts for you to use. With the help of fitness gurus, instructors, and even the Stetson Wellness and Recreation Team, we hope to provide a comprehensive source of resources to bring you opportunities to be active during quarantine.

Turns out you don’t always need a weight room or a treadmill, sometimes all you need is your own body and thirty minutes of your time!

Compiled here are three Fitness Blender workouts, with a focus on different kinds of cardio. Cardio will get your heart pumping and make you sweat,so turn on your favorite workout playlist and get moving!

Fitness Blender’s Low Impact Cardio workout is a great choice for beginners, those who are recovering from injury, or those who live in an apartment or dorm (no jumping!). This routine is designed for people who want to break a sweat and get their heart rate up, but don’t want a workout filled with jumping and running. Don’t be fooled by the lack of jumping, however; this routine is sure to give even veterans a great workout!

Fitness Blender’s Cardio Kickboxing workout is one of my go-to workouts for a good sweat and stress relief. This no-equipment cardio-boxing workout will help improve your balance, coordination, and upper-body strength, and it’s sure to get your heart pumping! This workout is great for people who are used to taking fitness classes, or for people who love high energy and intense workouts.

Fitness Blender’s 15 Minute HIIT workout is a fantastic no-equipment workout. HIIT stands for “high intensity interval training,” which is built on intervals alternating between explosive activity and complete rest. HIIT is designed to be very difficult and to require only 10 to 15 minutes of your time. It compliments a weightlifting regimen very well; this workout is great for those who are maintaining a weightlifting or strength-building routine, or for those who really want to challenge their cardio ability!

On top of these surefire cardio workouts, be sure to check out Stetson’s WELL Team programming! The WELL Team is working very hard to provide the Stetson community with at-home fitness opportunities, workout regimens, and health and wellness education. You can find them on Instagram at @thewellteam.
