Halloween+Horoscopes

ARIES (March 21 – April 20)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Classic Vampire. This Halloween, go back to basics and embrace your inner Dracula. Put on your fangs, don some killer eyeliner (yes, boys, you too!) and hit the town as a bloodsucking beauty.

PARTY PLANS: Theme Night at a Club. Halloween just got all grown up, Aries. Find the best late-night spot that’s hosting a spooktacular Halloween theme night, and hit the dancefloor with ghosts and ghouls. You might even find a perfectly chilling Halloween beverage – if you’re of age, of course.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Red Velvet Molten Lava Cakes. Vamp up your Halloween with this delectable bloody treat from Spache the Spatula. Sure, it’s meant to be a Valentine’s Day recipe, but who says red velvet has to be all about paper hearts? Adding a tiny bit of blue food coloring will darken the color to match your vampire spirit.

TAURUS (April 21 – May 21)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Pirate. Gasparilla isn’t for another few months, but your bandanas and peg-legs can see plenty of use this Halloween, Taurus. With so many creative ways to express your pirate spirit, Taurans of all gender persuasions can plunder the high seas as Captain Jack Sparrow, Blackbeard, or even Grace O’Malley!

PARTY PLANS: Hosting a Dinner Party. Halloween is just another great excuse to get the gang together, and with pumpkins and apples in season, the dining choices are endless! Fire up Pinterest and search for some great recipes, because everyone loves a good themed dinner party. And don’t forget the costumes!

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Popcorn Soup. While not strictly a “sweet treat,” who could resist this quintessential fall dish? The Food Network has a great recipe, but there are plenty more to be found in all corners of the web.

GEMINI (May 22 – June 21)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Ouija Board. This unique costume idea (modeled here by our designer Sami Hartman) made the rounds last year, and it’s perfect for you, Gemini. Start scouring makeup tutorials on YouTube, because you’re summoning the dead this weekend.

PARTY PLANS: Pack Leader. Whatever your group is doing for Halloween, you’re sure to take the lead. Whether it’s traipsing the squad downtown for a block party or hopping from frat house to frat house, you’ll be heading up the front of the line with a smile on your face.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Spice Latte Brownies. Unleash your inner white girl for this twist on an Autumn classic. Bakerita’s recipe puts the seminal Starbucks drink into brownie form, making the perfect Halloween baked good for every coffee lover.

CANCER (June 22 – July 22)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Merperson. Mermaids are all the rage this year, and Halloween is sure to be no different. Get in touch with your fishy side and show off your scales! Cancers of all genders can rock the merfolk look, whether you’re going for Ariel or one of the screeching creatures of Harry Potter fame.

PARTY PLANS: Trick or Treat. Who says it’s just for kids? While scoping out local neighborhoods might get you more than a few side-eyes, there are plenty of local trick-or-treating events with no age cap. Get a group together, don your best costumes, and go score some candy!

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Monster Cupcakes. These creepy little treats are absolutely adorable, and they’re even easy to make! The cupcakes can use any boxed mix, and the frosting is just a matter of getting creative. You could even have some friends over for a monster-making party (in costume, of course!)

LEO (July 23 – August 22)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Royal Highness. Whatever you decide to dress as, it should be something from royalty. Elegance is in your nature, Leo, and you’d be remiss if you didn’t channel that for Halloween. Try an Egyptian princess, a vampire king, or the Ruler of the Underworld.

PARTY PLANS: Costume Contest. Once you’re no-doubt-fabulous costume is finished, it’s time to show it off! Plenty of downtown and on-campus events have costume contests in the lineup, and it’s the perfect place for you and your royal getup this Halloween.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Cheesecake. This decadent dessert puts a twist on the classic pumpkin pie. While Six Dollar Family’s recipe isn’t exactly 30 Minute Meals, if you’ve got some time to spare, it’s the perfect fall dessert.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 23)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Superhero. If you saw Wonder Woman this summer, it probably left you feeling like you could conquer the world. Or perhaps you’re more of a Spider-Man fan, and the classic boy wonder’s new blockbuster set your spider-senses alight. Wherever your loyalties lie, Virgo, this Halloween, it’s time to dress for the job you want and show the world what a hero you are.

PARTY PLANS: Party Planner. Always the organized one, you sure know how to throw a great party. From the decorations to the snacks, any party you plan this Halloween is bound to be lit. Just make sure to take some time to enjoy yourself once your guests arrive!

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Ghost Strawberries. These chocolate covered strawberries are spooky delicious! With a super-simple recipe from YummyHealthyEasy, they make the perfect treat to serve at any Halloween bash. And get this: they’re even sort of good for you!

LIBRA (September 24 – October 23)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Flower Child. You’ve most likely been called a hippie at least once, Libra, so why not play into the stereotype? Whether you’d prefer to dig out your bell bottoms and fringe or just throw on a flower crown and call it a day, there’s a lot you can do with this concept. Just don’t forget to take a few selfies and add a pastel Instagram filter – that’s one thing the 60s were definitely missing.

PARTY PLANS: Party-hopping with friends. There’s so much to do on Halloween, why should you have to choose? Get the squad together, make a list of the best parties, and hit each one for long enough to sample the snacks and punch. It’s like your own holiday pub crawl!

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Spice Blondies. You’re secretly (or maybe not so secretly) a little bit basic, and pumpkin spice is the ultimate basic food group. Jive up your pumpkin menu with these fabulous blondies from Broke Foodies. Bonus: they’re vegan!

SCORPIO (October 24 – November 22)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Pennywise the Clown. After IT’s wild success this year, clowns are entering a new renaissance of monster status. If you’re into scary movies (or just scaring your friends!) a well-constructed clown costume is the perfect topical nightmare fuel. Just do everyone a favor and stick to the grown-up events – little kids might not be too keen on the idea of killer clowns.

PARTY PLANS: Masquerade Ball. You’ve got an aura of mystery to you, Scorpio, and a masquerade ball is the perfect place to let that side of you show (or hide). This Halloween night, swap out your clown makeup for a fancy feathered mask and find a party where everyone is just a little bit mysterious.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Eyeball Cookies. These creepy little cookies are a wonderful spooky treat, and they can be as cute or as gnarly as you make them. While this recipe uses black food coloring for extra creep factor, others use red or even green for a lighter, more playful look.

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 – December 21)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Taco. Halloween for you is less about spooky and more about witty, at least in terms of costume choice. While a taco may not be the most original idea, there’s a lot you can do with it: create your own costume as a perfect replica of a Doritos Locos Taco, or add some cat ears and be Taco Cat (spelled backwards, also Taco Cat). The possibilities are endless.

PARTY PLANS: Haunted House. That being said, you are up for some spook, and a haunted house is the perfect way to get your fix. Whether it’s a local barn party or Halloween Horror Nights, you’re always up for some chills and thrills.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Popcorn Balls. Remember those people who used to give out popcorn balls instead of candy? Those people were assholes, but this recipe from Cook the Story gives popcorn balls a new life. The addition of marshmallow makes them more like Rice Krispie Treats. Plus, they look like pumpkins. What’s not to love?

CAPRICORN (December 22 – January 21)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Demon. As the sign of the devil, Halloween holds particular significance for you, Capricorn. Embrace your inner blasphemer and channel Azazel, Hecate, or even Lucifer himself.

PARTY PLANS: Chaperone. Let’s face it, you’re the mom friend of the Zodiac, and not in the fun “snacks for everyone” kind of way. Even if you do get stuck babysitting, there are still plenty of ways to have fun, like marveling at everyone else’s costumes and raiding the candy dish. Besides, being designated driver means you never get too drunk to mess up your costume!

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins. This twist on an old Halloween favorite is sure to be a hit. Teepee Girl’s recipe yields plenty of miniature treats to satisfy your sweet tooth and pumpkin cravings all in one bite.

AQUARIUS (January 21 – February 20)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Space Alien. Be out of this world this Halloween and take sides on the Star Trek vs. Star Wars debate. Or go your own way and come up with a new alien species, with the help of a little makeup of course. There’s a whole universe of possibilities out there.

PARTY PLANS: Pub Crawl. This European tradition is making its way to the States, and it’s just in time for Halloween. Whether you’re buying a ticket to a planned event or charting your own course through the best venues, you’ll be sure to hit every spot and sample some wild concoctions.

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Caramel Apple Variations. These classic treats can be made in a wide variety of ways, but this GooDIY recipe goes gourmet. If you’re looking for a fun new way to use all that discount candy, these apples may be your answer.

PISCES (February 21 – March 20)

YOUR AWESOME COSTUME: Deer. Deer girls were all the rage last year (as our Editor in Chief Kait Forsythe knows!), but who says deer makeup has to be gendered? If eyeliner and bronzer are completely foreign concepts to you, find a lady friend and a YouTube tutorial and get to work! Deer aren’t the only animals you can transform into with the help of makeup, either – you can find fabulous looks for tigers, giraffes, and even peacocks.

PARTY PLANS: Hanging Out with the Squad. Whatever you do this Halloween, you’re not about to do it alone. Whether your friends are hitting the town, throwing a house party, or heading to a haunted house, you’ll be right there with them. Every holiday is a social holiday for you, and with so many options for group hangouts, what’s not to love about Halloween?

SWEET TREATS TO TRY: Marshmallow Pops. Who doesn’t love a good campfire? These marshmallow pops are a spooky take on the camping classic. They’re super simple to make and can be modified to fit your particular candy cravings. Delicious!
