Florida COVID-19 Vaccine Eligibility Expansion
March 31, 2021
Gov. Ron DeSantis recently announced the new eligibility guidelines for Florida residents regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. “While the Biden administration set a May 1st target date for vaccine eligibility for all adults, Florida is pleased to announce that all adults in the state age 18 and older, will be eligible for the vaccine beginning Monday, April 5th,” stated DeSantis in a public video released by his office.
Effective as of April 5, the following are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccinations:
- All Florida residents age 18 and up will be eligible to receive the Moderna, Janssen (Johnson and Johnson), or Pfizer vaccines.
- Florida residents ages 16 and 17 will be eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine with parent’s permission.
Florida residents are encouraged to pre-register at www.myvaccine.fl.gov. Once you’re pre-registered, you will receive a notification when an appointment becomes available. Since there is a limited supply of the vaccine, this could take several weeks.
Gov. Ron DeSantis ended his announcement with the following statement: “We have made great progress and I look forward to continuing to work hard to make sure everyone in Florida who wants a shot, can get a shot. No mandate, but access for all.”
