Quarantine Recipes: Churros
May 17, 2020
Churros are a delicious Mexican dessert and have become a famous treat at Disney World. Since Disney parks are temporarily closed, why not make them yourself? Here is a quick and easy recipe for this universally-loved snack that you can try at home.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
1 stick unsalted butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 1/4 cup flour
3 large eggs
vegetable oil (see recipe for details)
1/2 cup sugar
- In a pot over medium heat add water, unsalted butter, salt, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon and bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low and pour the flour into the pot, stirring vigorously until fully combined. Remove from heat and let cool for ten minutes.
- Add in the eggs one at a time and mix in completely.
- Pour enough oil into a pot so that the churros can be completely submerged in oil. Heat at medium-high heat or until the temperature reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use caution, the oil may splatter.
- Spoon the dough into a plastic bag and cut a hole at a corner of the bag.
- Using the bag, pipe three inch long churro sticks, cut with a knife, and drop into the oil and fry until golden brown. Only do a few sticks at a time. Fry until golden brown (three to four minutes).
- Drain churros on a paper towel.
- Combine together in a bowl ½ teaspoon cinnamon and sugar, and coat the fried churros fully in the mixture. For extra flavor, drizzle chocolate syrup over the top.
Enjoy!
