Quarantine Recipes: Churros

Emily Derrenbacker, Writer - The Reporter

Churros are a delicious Mexican dessert and have become a famous treat at Disney World. Since Disney parks are temporarily closed, why not make them yourself? Here is a quick and easy recipe for this universally-loved snack that you can try at home.

Ingredients:

1 cup water

1 stick unsalted butter

1/4 teaspoon salt

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 1/4 cup flour

3 large eggs

vegetable oil (see recipe for details)

1/2 cup sugar

  1. In a pot over medium heat add water, unsalted butter, salt, and ¼ teaspoon cinnamon and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and pour the flour into the pot, stirring vigorously until fully combined. Remove from heat and let cool for ten minutes.
  3. Add in the eggs one at a time and mix in completely.
  4. Pour enough oil into a pot so that the churros can be completely submerged in oil. Heat at medium-high heat or until the temperature reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Use caution, the oil may splatter.
  5. Spoon the dough into a plastic bag and cut a hole at a corner of the bag.
  6. Using the bag, pipe three inch long churro sticks, cut with a knife, and drop into the oil and fry until golden brown. Only do a few sticks at a time. Fry until golden brown (three to four minutes).
  7. Drain churros on a paper towel.
  8. Combine together in a bowl ½ teaspoon cinnamon and sugar, and coat the fried churros fully in the mixture. For extra flavor, drizzle chocolate syrup over the top.

Enjoy!
