As a Digital Arts Major, lab assistant, and spearhead of both What Radio and Hatters Down Under, Lane Davis ’24 has a schedule that is anything but average. Though he always has something to do and somewhere to be, the genuine passion for everything he is involved in, helps Lane make schedule all work and all play. Here are some of the unique essentials that he keeps while on the go.
- Backpack
“Right off the bat is my backpack. I try to find something that has a nice laptop sleeve so that it can fit my usually 15-16 inch computer. I’ve had the same computer since 2017, so I’m definitely in need of an upgrade. That’s usually my daily driver just to get all my stuff done, get on the move and everything like that.”
- External Hard drive
“You know, school projects, side projects, anything like that—major things— that I need to keep up to date with. My computer can’t hold everything.”
- Umbrella
“The umbrella, especially right now. I have the tiny Stetson umbrellas and also the one for Hatter Network that we got, so I’m excited. But definitely in this climate, having that thing has been a new addition to my backpack that I didn’t think I needed.”
- Phone
“My phone, solid choice for anyone I’m sure. Just for keeping track of my calendar, because I have an app that I record all my notes and my to-do stuff on and then I have my calendar, that’s usually what I bounce back and forth between.”
- Airpods
“There’s a lot of options in my major. My major focus in digital arts is like audio stuff, so I’m kind of picky with headphones, but I just go with some air pods. Pretty easy just to take in, take out. You don’t have to be fancy with it.”
- Tech Pack
“I have a little tech pack. So it’s just like a nice foot long, half foot little package that holds an HDMI cable, extra chargers, extra cables that I may need for events and stuff like that. Sometimes I’ll go to conferences, and I don’t know what I’ll need, so I usually hold everything that I have in there. Just a whole plethora of little tech things that you never know you’ll need like adapters and whatnot.”
- Water Bottle
“My 32-ounce water bottle that I got as a gift for work in a conference with my name and the organization on it. It is definitely a staple, even if it is a little janky.”
- Keychains
“I have a bunch of keychains, I would put pins on my bag, but my backpack is too thick. So, I put keychains of a whole lot of random stuff that I have, like the Hatter network keychain that people get, a little Lego figure of Yoda that I got when I was at Legoland years ago, just a bunch of random little things that I find.”
- Wireless Mouse
“I hate trackpads. I should say I don’t like the trackpad on my computer. I always have a wireless mouse in a little case that I keep for everything. So easy to set up; I like the fact that I can take my bag anywhere and set up a workstation. Usually, I can work on whatever I need to get done, done wherever I’m at.”
