Jessie TenBroeck is a senior second baseman on the softball team, and majors in accounting. She is currently Stetson’s record holder for stolen bases and is tied for first in NCAA stolen bases, totaling 27 this season so far. The Lady Hatters are currently 17-3.

Reporter: How did you feel after breaking the record?

TenBroeck: It was an awesome feeling. It is something that I never thought I would come in and do when I first came here to Stetson. It is actually kind of funny. When I was in the game and I stole one of the bases, one of the umpires looked at me and said, ‘So, that’s number 98.’ I had no clue what he was talking about. He said, ‘Yeah, to the stolen base record.’ So when it happened, it hit me how soon it happened. It was an amazing feeling.

R: What are some of your goals or team goals for the season?

T: Well, definitely to have a good year. We are hoping to come out on top. We have a really strong team this year – a lot of young players, but it is looking really well for us so far. We are having one of the best starts we have ever had in thirteen years I think they said.

R: You said you have a lot of young players, how is that dynamic going?

T: It is going really well. Everyone seems to mold together, to work together as a team.

R: As a senior, what are some differences between your freshman and senior year?

T: Well I’ve definitely gained a lot of knowledge and experience here. The pressure is a little more relaxed now. You’re not so worried about coming in with freshman jitters. Now, it is teaching all the girls what to expect when we play these teams that we’re playing. Freshman year, we came in playing these top teams and I was so nervous just to even be on the field with my team, let alone playing these other [ones]. So, it’s just teaching the players to relax and play the game, you know?

R: What are your plans after school?

T: After school I actually plan on returning to Stetson to get my Masters of Accounting.
