Stetson women’s tennis (0-3) suffered a tough loss to Georgia Southern (3-0) this past Saturday at home. Losing the doubles matches, the Hats were up 3-2 towards the end of singles, unfortunately losing the last two singles matches for the day with Georgia Southern winning 4-3.
The singles winners for the Hatters this weekend were Maja Salibasic at No.2, Lucie Renault at No. 3, and Arijana Korac at No.1.
Maja Salibasic, a senior veteran for the Hatters, gave her input about the loss to Georgia Southern. “It was a close match against Georgia Southern and I think that we put up a good fight. We had our opportunity to win the doubles point, but missed it. We will definitely keep practicing and working on winning those important points. Other than that, our team showed a lot of energy and passion on the courts and I am certain that we will come out even stronger in our next match.”
Stetson finished the 2016 season with a record 9-13. In ASUN conference play, they finished 4-2. Salibasic commented on how the team is looking forward to this year’s conference play. “We are all excited and motivated for this season. We will be practicing hard and improving, both mentally and physically, for conference. Looking at all the hard work our team is giving and how much we want to come out strong in conference, I am very optimistic that our team will go far this year.”
The Hats will face the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL this Sunday, February 12th at 2:00 PM.
