A Year After: Trump Presidency Review

After more than a full year after the 2016 election, how has the president done so far?

Depending on your politics you may believe that Donald Trump’s presidential win was a success or a bust. It’s been a little over a year since Trump’s win but only 316 days since he was sworn into office. Since that time, there have been a number of successful meetings and embarrassing tweets. For example:

We should have a contest as to which of the Networks, plus CNN and not including Fox, is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me). They are all bad. Winner to receive the FAKE NEWS TROPHY!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) November 27, 2017

And let us never forget the iconic covefe…or was it co-fefe?

No matter how silly these tweets may seem, the POTUS has some serious work that showcases his commitment to his title. For example, he has made Americans, especially women, much more active in their politics. According to this survey, about 63 percent of Democratic and 54 percent of Republican women answered that they have increased their political activities since the election in 2016.

He also has been proving to be a much more bipartisan President than many had originally thought. He isn’t afraid to cross sides and work with Democrats in issues such as raising the debt ceiling to add funding for hurricane relief. House Minority Leader, Nancy Pelosi even publically thanked him on Twitter for his “commitment” to real protections.

Trump aimed to establish good rapport with potential Asian allies like Japan, South Korea and China–relations which are improving with his recent trip. It’s no secret that America is hated by this Communist country, and having allies in the countries that surround North Korea is the type of support that we need to reduce the risk of war.  This is especially important with the rise of North Korea’s military expansion.
I see huge ethical errors in judgement, such as nominating an “unqualified judge” for the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Alabama. This same judge’s wife is also a White House staffer who assists in creating judge nominations. Can someone say “ethics”? But his “America First” mentality with the economy makes me surprisingly hopeful. If Congress allows Trump’s Tax plan to go through, millions of corporate dollars saved in tax havens offshore may be brought in. He understands the economy and has already been proving that given the support he may be able to lower taxes (which is incredible surprise coming from a Republican president), strengthen the dollar, create more national investment, and create more jobs.

Regardless of where you stand in your opinion of Trump, it’s really hard to say if his term will be positive or negative. If anyone tells you different, they are biased and having only been reading information that confirms that bias because it is simply too soon to tell. Get out there; read and engage in dialogue with people who don’t agree with you. I hope that for America’s sake, Trump’s presidency is successful in the long run.
